BUILT FOR THE LONG HAUL
When it comes to setting up a proper touring rig, it’s not just about power. It’s about capability, comfort, and confidence on the road. This Chevrolet Silverado 2500 came into Thor Mechanical with one clear goal in mind: make towing easier, extend range, and create a setup that can handle long trips across Australia without compromise.
We started with the fundamentals. A full Offroad Industries Stage 2 GVM upgrade laid the groundwork, giving the Silverado the strength it needs to carry heavier loads safely. This included a 3 inch lift, Fox 2.5 DSC Performance Elite shocks, BDS control arms, Bushwacker flares, and an ORI 500 kg leaf pack. The result is a stronger, more stable platform that handles weight better and keeps the ride controlled, whether you’re towing a caravan or loaded up for a trip.
To take towing performance even further, we installed a full LogIQ airbag system. With an HD2 compressor, dual channel remote control, advanced wiring harness and a 3 gallon aluminium air tank, this setup allows the driver to adjust ride height on the fly. Whether the tray is loaded or the van is hooked up, the vehicle stays level and balanced, making long drives safer and more comfortable.
Range and reliability were the next focus. A Titan long range fuel tank means fewer stops and more time on the road, which is exactly what you want when travelling through remote parts of WA. For communication, a GME 4WD pack with UHF radio and antenna keeps you connected when mobile coverage drops out, giving peace of mind wherever the track leads.
To round out the build, we installed a Baja S8 Pro straight LED light bar, neatly tucked behind the grille for a clean, low-profile finish. It throws serious light down the road without compromising the look of the vehicle.
The end result is a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 that’s built for serious touring. More towing capability, better load control, extended range, and the confidence to take on long road trips without second guessing your setup. If you’re planning your next big trip and want your vehicle ready for it, Thor Mechanical can build a setup that gets you there and back without hassle.
